Summer Session: 8 week Intermediate & Independent Study: June 15th-August 3rd

Bliss Pottery House

With Jaime Bliss on Monday Evenings 5:30-8:30pm

This 8-week course is designed for potters who are comfortable with the basics of wheel throwing and handbuilding. If you can consistently center clay, throw a cylinder, and have a good understanding of the firing process, this is the perfect class to take your work to the next level.

This is a combo class.  For those students looking for more in-depth instruction, we will work together on projects such as:

  • Throwing larger forms: Learn how to throw bigger pieces by working with more clay or joining sections together.
  • Lidded pots: Learn the art of creating multi-part pieces with perfectly fitted lids.
  • Throwing off the hump: Explore throwing multiple pieces of pottery from one mound of clay.
  • Surface decoration:  Dive into a variety of decorative techniques, including sgraffito, carving and adding decorative elements.

For those who are ready for the next level, have projects of their own in mind, yet still need some instruction on how to make it work, this class is also for you! Come with your ideas, and the instructor will help guide you to make it happen!

Through a mix of demonstrations, guided practice, and personalized feedback, you will gain the confidence to tackle more challenging projects and develop a deeper understanding of your craft. Come join a supportive community of fellow potters and push the boundaries of what you can create.
