Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience?
Not at all! Our Beginner classes are designed for students who have never touched clay. We’ll guide you step-by-step.
What if I'm not artistic?
Perfect! Pottery is a skill you build — not a talent you’re born with. Our 8-week format allows you to develop confidence through repetition and support.
What will I make?
It all depends on which class you take! In our 8-week wheel series classes, you’ll create functional pottery like bowls, mugs, plates, and small serving pieces. In our Combo & Handbuilding classes, you will make pottery projects that are both functional and decorative. And in our sculptural classes you will focus on form and texture rather than functionality.
Can I come to open studio without experience?
Yes — for handbuilding and clay kits. Wheel use requires prior experience.
How many pieces do I get to keep?
Each student keeps multiple finished pieces from the session. (Exact numbers vary by class type.)
Is glazing included?
Yes! Glazing instruction is part of your series. Your creations are professionally kiln-fired and ready for pickup in approximately 1-2 weeks after glazing.
What if I miss a class?
Because skills build week-to-week, we encourage consistent attendance. If you miss, we’ll do our best to help you stay on track.
Are clay and tools included?
A beginner tool kit is included with your class registration.
Because we offer several clay options, clay is purchased separately. During your first class, we’ll walk you through each choice—explaining the differences in color, texture, and firing results—so you can select the clay that best fits your creative goals for the series.
What should i wear?
Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy. Clay washes out, but the darker colors may stain.
Can I practice outside of class?
Yes! Included in your tuition, you will have access to special student open studio hours that we encourage you to attend!
Do you offer kids and teen classes?
Yes! Kids and teen sessions run seasonally and follow a different schedule than adult classes.
Do you offer pottery camps?
Yes! Bliss offers themed pottery camps during the summer for kids and teens.
Where are you located?
Bliss Pottery House is located at 730 Hebron Ave. Suite 9 in Glastonbury, Connecticut. You can access our studio by using the back entrance or left-side entrance.
Are you handicap accessible?
Yes! We are on the first floor, and If you come through the left entrance, there is a railing and no stairs.
