Quick & Dirty 2 Hour Clay Experience
Quick & Dirty 2 Hour Clay Experience
The time is now to try your hand in clay! This class features a “quick & dirty” (literally) intro to all things clay: hand-building and throwing on the wheel. The class is structured so you get to make something small using both techniques. At the end, you can pick your glaze color (or you can come back at another time and glaze your own piece, registration required). Your masterpieces will be ready for pick-up within 3-4 weeks.
Enjoy some complimentary coffee, tea and water (you are welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic drinks and snacks too!)
Please bring a towel (or two), everything else will be provided for you.
Ages 14+
What to Expect:
- Introduction to the Wheel: We’ll start with a demo to show you the process of centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping a basic vessel (usually a cup or bowl).
- Hands-On Practice: You’ll get your own wheel and clay to work with as the instructor guides you step-by-step. Expect some wobbly pots—it’s part of the process!
- Introduction to HandBuilding: You'll get to learn how to make a small tray using slump molds.
- Trimming & Finishing: The instructor will trim your pot once it is leather-hard, about 1-2 days later.
-
Glazing: You have two options:
- 1. Choose the color glaze you would like and the instructor will glaze it for you.
- 2. Come back during open studio hours, and glaze your own creation for a small additional fee (registration is required)
- Take Home Your Work: Your creation will be fired in a kiln and ready for pickup in 3-4 weeks.
- What to bring: Coffee, tea and water will be provided, you are welcome to bring snacks or any other non-alcoholic drinks. Please bring a towel and/or apron to help keep yourself clean, all other materials will be provided for you.
